the june 15 2013 w pg 13, para 6&7 has an experience of a pioneer that needed $66 to pay her rent the next day.

she prayed and went to work at her job as a waitress.

when she finished her shift she had received a total of $66 in tips.

21 As to disfellowshiped family members (not minor sons or daughters) living outside the home, each family must decide to what extent they will have association with such ones. This is not something that the congregational elders can decide for them. What the elders are concerned with is that “leaven” is not reintroduced into the congregation through spiritual fellowshiping with those who had to be removed as such “leaven.” Thus, if a disfellowshiped parent goes to visit a son or daughter or to see grandchildren and is allowed to enter the Christian home, this is not the concern of the elders. Such a one has a natural right to visit his blood relatives and his offspring. Similarly, when sons or daughters render honor to a parent, though disfellowshiped, by calling to see how such a one’s physical health is or what needs he or she may have, this act in itself is not a spiritual fellowshiping.

22 In some cases where a disfellowshiped parent is aged or in bad health and needs care, the son or daughter might feel it advisable to bring such a parent into the home to fulfill proper filial obligations. So, too, Christian parents of a disfellowshiped son or daughter who is no longer a minor might decide to take such a one back into the home due to that one’s having a grave health problem or having been incapacitated in an accident or being in a destitute state financially. These are humanitarian decisions that Christian families must make and the congregational elders are not required to intervene where there is no sound evidence of a reintroduction of a corrupting influence within the congregation.

so, give me credit... .

last night i had a discussion on spirituality with my jw friend.

our last few conversations, i didn't have the hang of the "line of questioning that gets them to think" technique down.

This shows that the Bible was written in a time that there was either heaven or earth. If the Bible was divinely inspired, surely Satan could have been limited to another galaxy far far away...but of course the telescope was not invented yet. Therefore, there was only heaven or earth - nothing more.

conventions start may 18 according to jw.org.. hopefully, there will drops in baptisms as reported from 2011. unfortunately, there will be the poor kids..

My bet is on a new reasoning book (this one is dated and unable to counter many good arguments).

I also expect a new book to study with prospect witnesses...which will omit reference to 1914.

How Did You View The Elders?

i know some who truly believed they were "gifts in men".

they needed their approval and wanted to be well spoken of by them.. i know some who can't stand elders and regard them as pests, always looking for some dirt on somebody.. i know some who liked maybe one or two but regarded the majority as unqualified.. how did you view the elders??

15 If you are approaching the end of the schooling required of you, you may find yourself in good health and with few responsibilities. Have you seriously considered entering the regular pioneer ranks? No doubt, school counselors sincerely believe that it is in your best interests to pursue higher education and to plan for a secular career. Yet, their confidence lies in a social and financial system that has no lasting future. On the other hand, by pursuing a theocratic career, you will be pursuing truly worthwhile and lasting goals.

Compare this to the well known quote from 43 years ago:

Awake! 1969 May 22 p.15

"If you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things. Why not? Because all the evidence in fulfillment of Bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years. ... Therefore, as a young person, you will never fulfill any career that this system offers. If you are in high school and thinking about a college education, it means at least four, perhaps even six or eight more years to graduate into a specialized career. But where will this system of things be by that time? It will be well on the way toward its finish, if not actually gone!"

Of course most of those who did the University around 1969 are now retiring, if they have not yet retired.

For those currently working is states:

Many of God’s servants today work long hours to care for the basic necessities of their families. Yet, some may be working more hours than necessary. The commercial world is doing its utmost to convince us that we cannot live without its many products and every new model that comes on the market. But true Christians do not want Satan’s world to dictate their priorities.

And for those who have been able to retire and think they can start enjoying life, it continues:

As for those who have retired from secular employment, what better way to use their time than in the pioneer ministry?
